About Wellington

Wellington is a compact, walkable city. The conference venue at the Kelburn campus of Victoria University of Wellington overlooks the harbour and inner-city, with easy access by foot, bus or cable car.

Wellington has a wealth of activities including art, culture, nightlife, and with its wide range of bars, restaurants and activities. There are many outdoor activities such as swimming in the city centre , kayaking, sailing or hill walking.

Wellington is also an ideal jumping off point for exploring the South Island or the towns and wineries just over an hour away across the Rimutaka Hill in the Wairarapa.

The National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa offers visitors a unique and authentic experience of this country’s treasures and stories. Over five floors, you can explore the nation’s nature, art, history, and heritage — from the shaping of its land to the spirit of its diverse peoples, from its unique wildlife to its distinctive art and visual culture.

There also other art galleries and museums in the area such as the City Gallery WellingtonWellington Museum, Capital E, and the New Zealand Portrait Gallery. Cuba Street offers a range of smaller private galleries and boutique shopping.

Here is just a small selection of the things you can do while visiting Wellington:

  • Find out where to eat and what to see at the official website of Wellington NZ .
  • Go bird spotting at Zealandia, an urban ecosanctuary providing a safe haven for endangered native birds and other wildlife, located minutes from downtown Wellington.
